Romantic melodrama set in the Shanghai community of Hong Kong in 1962.
Newspaper editor Chow (Leung Chiu Wai) and his wife have just moved into
a new apartment across the hall from Li-zhen (Maggie) and her husband. Both
their respective spouses are away from home a great deal, travelling on business,
so the lonely duo begin a tentative friendship. Then Chow begins to suspect his
wife is having an affair and it quickly becomes apparent that it's with Li-zhen
husband. Gorgeous to look at, melancholy in tone, if somewhat oblique.

2046 (2004)
Cast - Tony Leung, Li Gong, Takuya Kimura, Faye Wong, Zhang Ziyi

"2046" is the eighth feature film from Hong Kong director Wong Kar Wai and the
long-anticipated follow-up to his 2000 art-house favourite, "In the Mood for Love"
Like the earlier film "2046" played at the Cannes film Festival (in 2004), where it
provoked a modest scandal. The version shown at Cannes was clearly unfinished
and, perhaps as a consequence, "2046" was wantly received. Set mostly over 3-
year, starting in 1966, "2046" centers on Chow, with brilliantined hair and the
mustache of a lounge lizard, played by Mr Wong's favourite leading man, Tony
Leung Chiu-Wai. One day, Chow meets and old flame, Lulu (Carina Lau), who
is now known as Mimi and lives in the Oriental Hotel, in Room 2046. When Chow
later returns to her hotel, he discovers that Lulu-Mimi has disappeared. He sub-
sequently moves into the adjacent room, 2047, whereupon he meets the two
women whose stories will cast shadows over his own.
